​​Skylar Desjardins / BIO

​

Skylar is a freelance set, lighting, and costume designer for the performing arts based in Calgary, AB. Though he works primarily in the theatre community, has has provided lighting  and costume design for dance pieces as well as lighting and projection accompaniment for orchestral pieces. He received formal training at the University of Calgary, earning a BFA in theatre design with distinction. He has also received training in multimedia design through Ghost River Theatre, technical training with Iatse 212 and ETC, and Butoh and devised theatre training with Theatre Encounter's Bader Meinhoff Collective.

Always exploring, Skylar is interested in the ways in which design for the performing arts can become more than a backdrop, but can become an integral part of the storytelling as a lived experience; he is especially interested in the creation of new works.
